Family-owned, the Montemaggio Estate is located in Radda in Chianti in the heart of the Chianti Classico region in Italy. Montemaggio’s mission is quite simple: to deliver high-quality wines that are genuinely connected to the land where they are produced. Montemaggio concentrates on small-batch production in order to nurture every one of their vines and every bottle of wine that they produce. Their wines are certified organic and 100% handcrafted.
Fattoria di Montemaggio’s mission is the result of the passion, love, and dedication from all of the people that work on the vineyard every day and is specifically the result of a dream come true of two women: Valeria Zavadnikova, the young, passionate owner of Fattoria de Montemaggio, and Ilaria Anichini, an agronomist and the director of the winery since 2005.
Quinta Essentia di Montemaggio
Manual harvest and manual sorting during the last week of September for the Merlot and late October for the Sangiovese. Following a careful, manual selection, the best Merlot and Sangiovese grapes are fermented separately for about 30 days at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks (not higher than 26°C) and wooden conical vats. After malolactic fermentation, the Merlot is refined for about 18 months in oak barrels (225L), mainly for the second passage, while the Sangiovese is refined in large barrels (32hl) and partially in tonneaux (5hl). Finally, the two wines are then blended and put in barrique (225L) for about 6 – 8 months. Refinement in the bottle for at least 1 year.
