HISTORY AND WINE from
Fattoria di Montemaggio
Family-owned, the Montemaggio Estate is located in Radda in Chianti in the heart of the Chianti Classico region in Italy. They produce handmade, 100% organic wines that include Chianti Classico, Chianti Riserva, Chianti Gran Selezione, and their Super Tuscan wines Torre di Montemaggio and Quinta Essentia di Montemaggio. The name Montemaggio stems from “Monte Maggiore” (Big Mountain), which refers to its elevated position.
Organic Agriculture at its best
Montemaggio’s mission is quite simple: to deliver high-quality wines that are genuinely connected to the land where they are produced. Montemaggio concentrates on small-batch production in order to nurture every one of their vines and every bottle of wine that they produce. Their wines are certified organic and 100% handcrafted.
Fattoria di Montemaggio’s mission is the result of the passion, love, and dedication from all of the people that work on the vineyard every day and is specifically the result of a dream come true of two women: Valeria Zavadnikova, the young, passionate owner of Fattoria de Montemaggio, and Ilaria Anichini, an agronomist and the director of the winery since 2005.
Chianti Classico Riserva di Montemaggio 2014
Produced from a selection of the best Sangiovese grapes from the vineyard’s oldest vines, Chianti Classico Riserva di Montemaggio has an intense ruby red color. It offers an intense and elegant bouquet – mineral, spiced with wild, earthy, leathery notes typical of Sangiovese grapes, enriched with hints of red fruit and light wood. Elegant, full, rich, velvety smooth on the palate, and at the same time austere and persistent with pleasant tannins. Well balanced. We suggest decanting this wine an hour before serving.

Wine from Fattoria di Montemaggio
Paradise in Tuscany
Fattoria di Montemaggio is located in the heart of the breathtaking Chianti Classico region in Tuscany and is just a short drive from Radda in Chianti, Panzano, Greve in Chianti and Gaiole in Chianti, some of the prettiest and most important wine-producing villages.
The peculiarity of this area is that only in this specific region can Chianti Classico wine be produced according to the Chianti Classico Consortium rules and regulations.
Radda is the most historical village of the Chianti Classico region and is a beautiful medieval town. Located up on a hill, it is dominated by the magnificent Palazzo del Podestà (City Hall), which was built between the end of the 13th century and the beginning of 14th century. It has 51 coats of arms imbedded in its façade in memory of the Podestà family, who once presided over the village.

Guarantee of excellence and authentic Tuscan wines
Fattoria di Montemaggio is a member of the Consortium of Chianti Classico, and the estate extends over an area of 70 hectares (about 190 acres) of vineyards, olive groves and woods, uniquely situated at a high altitude of 450 to 600 meters above the sea level. The vineyards make up 8 hectares (20 acres) and have a central position on the estate grounds with a southwest exposure of remarkable importance. The soil is rich on galestro, sandstone, and alberese. Montemaggio’s main grape variety is Sangiovese, with small additions of Merlot, Pugnitello, Chardonnay, Malvasia Nera, and Ciliegiolo.
Montemaggio has been certified organic since 2009. They practice organic agriculture, and cultivation is carried out with maximum respect for nature without introducing any foreign or chemical elements that can damage the environment.
Pure organic wines
Montemaggio prides itself om producing high quality “Terroir” wine. Their vines are planted high density (6250 plants/hectare) and they produce a lower quantity of grapes per hectare (35-60 Ql/hectare depending on the vintage), by regulating through green harvest and selection techniques.
Montemaggio uses the vine training systems cordone speronato (spurred cordon), alberello (head-trained bush vine), and guyot. Harvest is carried out manually, and only done when the grapes are perfectly ripe.
Fattoria di Montemaggio’s wines are 100% hand-made and they preserve all the quality of the elements that are special and unique to the land where they have been cultivated.
