Our medals & awards
If a wine has been awarded a medal, it is a good indication that it is credible and of good quality.
It is, however, important to note that when a wine is awarded a medal, it does not necessarily mean that it is the “winner.” This is because there can be numerous wines within a single category that end up being awarded the same medal.

Medaille d'Or 2019 - Concours Des Grand Vins De France a Mâcon
Trained wine experts make up judging panels at wine competitions and award medals to individual wines in various categories on the basis of blind tasting (in order to prevent bias). They generally score wines based on 4 primary elements: color (sight), aroma (smell), flavor (taste) and overall impression. Most common in European wine competitions, wines are scored out of a total of 20 points.
- For a wine to be awarded a gold medal, it must score 18.5-20 points.
- For a wine to be awarded a silver medal, it must score 17-18.5 points.
- For a wine to be awarded a bronze medal, it must score 15.5-17 points.
At the end of the day, all that matters is that you like a wine and enjoy drinking it. But at Château Wines Direct, we expect nothing short of top-quality from our vineyards, and we are proud to have so many medal-winning wines.
It may not mean that you enjoy drinking them any more or any less, but it certainly recognizes all of the hard work and dedication our vineyards put in to making the top-quality wines we offer.
